This scholarship supports students who are care experienced or estranged young people, to succeed in their studies at the University of Manchester. The award is funded by our alumni community and donors.

Care experienced or Care Leaver Independent / Estranged students

Scheme eligibility

Essential criteria are criteria you must meet to be considered for this scheme. Students who do not meet this criteria will not be considered for this award. The essential criteria for this scheme are as follows:

You must meet one of the following criteria:
- Are under the age of 25 and have been in public care for a minimum of three months since the age of 11
- Are under the age of 25 and have been estranged from your family for at least 6 months.

Please note that if you are an independent student AND have completed the Manchester Access programme, you will receive a £2,600 award from the Undergraduate Access Scholarship.

Application and selection process

To receive this scholarship, you must evidence your status to our Independent Students team when you arrive at the University. All eligible students will receive this scholarship.

Terms and conditions

Engaging with donors: This scheme is generously supported by a donor. Successful applicants will be expected to provide regular updates on their progress to the donor and meet with them as part of the terms and conditions of receiving the award.
